Cathey McClelland

Administrative Coordinator

I am so excited to serve Wakefield United Methodist Church as your Administrative Coordinator. I look forward to experiencing the growth of this wonderful family. I’ve worked in administrative positions for many years. However, after working in a temporary position at Asbury UMC in Raleigh for about 8 months, I knew this is what I wanted to do. So i was thrilled to be offered this position at WUMC.

I grew up attending Big Springs UMC in Charlotte. The church was established in 1866 and was originally a camp meeting along the creek known as Big Spring. As kids, we loved running down to play in that creek after services, though our parents probably didn’t appreciate that! Somehow the mischievous baby sister of 4 older brothers managed to be still long enough to feel the overwhelming love of God in my heart and accept Jesus as my Savior.

I met my husband Scott, while attending college in Bristol, Virginia. We married and I joined his church, Bluff City UMC in Tennessee. We were active in church league sports, children’s programs and I enjoyed the women’s bible study group. Then Scott transferred to Charlotte with Piedmont Airlines. Of course I was happy to re-join my home church and childhood friends.

Scott and I were blessed with two sons, Jessee and Michael. Jessee and his wife, Kim have 2 boys, Owen and Stewart. They reside in Raleigh. Michael and his wife, Raisa have a daughter, Freya. Michael is stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB. Spending time with my children and grandchildren fills my heart. I also enjoy gardening, DIY projects, long walks and spoiling my dog, Heidi.

Once again, we returned to Tennessee and Scott retired. In 2016 Scott was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. He received a transplant in 2018 at Houston Methodist Hospital. After recovering we moved to this area for continued medical care at Duke University Hospital Transplant Center. Scott passed away February 27, 2022.

It has been awhile since I’ve been able to actively attend church. I look forward to working, serving and calling Wakefield United Methodist Church my new home.
